About Sharad Navratri begins

Sharad Navratri — “nine nights” — is dedicated to the Goddess in her nine forms (Navadurga) and is the most widely celebrated Navratri of the year.

How it is observed

Many families install a kalash (Ghatasthapana) on the first day, fast or eat sattvic food, and worship a different form of Durga each day. Gujarati communities celebrate with garba and dandiya; Bengali communities with Durga Puja; South Indian families with Golu.

About the time shown: Ghatasthapana is done in the morning on the first day while Pratipada is current.
