About Thaipusam
Thaipusam honours Lord Murugan and falls in the Tamil month of Thai when the Pusam (Pushya) nakshatra is prominent, usually near the full moon.
How it is observed
Devotees fast, pray at Murugan temples and many carry a kavadi — an offering borne on the shoulders — as an act of devotion and thanksgiving.
