About Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters on the full moon of Shravana.
How it is observed
Sisters tie a rakhi on their brothers’ wrists and pray for their wellbeing; brothers give gifts and a promise of protection. Families living apart often send rakhis by post.
About the time shown: The rakhi is traditionally tied in the afternoon (aparahna) while Purnima is current, avoiding the Bhadra period.
