About Holika Dahan
Holika Dahan, the night before Holi, recalls the story of Prahlad, whose devotion to Vishnu protected him while the demoness Holika perished in the fire.
How it is observed
Communities light a bonfire after sunset, walk around it and offer grains, coconut and new crops, praying for the triumph of good over evil.
About the time shown: The fire is lit in the evening (pradosh) while Purnima is current. Some traditions avoid the Bhadra period; check with your temple for the exact time.
