About Lohri
Lohri is a Punjabi winter festival held on the eve of Makar Sankranti, celebrating the end of the coldest days and the harvest of rabi crops.
How it is observed
Families and friends gather around a bonfire in the evening, offering sesame, peanuts, popcorn and jaggery to the fire, singing traditional songs and dancing bhangra and giddha. A first Lohri for a newborn or newlyweds is especially celebrated.
