About Dussehra

Dussehra (Vijayadashami) celebrates the victory of good over evil — Rama’s victory over Ravana and Durga’s victory over Mahishasura.

How it is observed

In North India effigies of Ravana are burned; elsewhere families worship the Goddess, and it is a traditional day to begin learning or new work.

About the time shown: The Vijay Muhurat falls in the afternoon (aparahna) while Dashami is current.
